It has a spacious ground floor gallery, which houses a long-term exhibition, showing the history of Witney and its surrounding countryside, highlighting the changes that have taken place over the last millennium. The town's industries, such as Witney blankets, glove-making, engineering and brewing are featured. The Museum is housed in a traditional Cotswold stone building. The west end of the building was once used as a smithy, while the upper floor was a "lath store".The Witney Museum houses items from local industries, together with photographs and artefacts relating to Witney buildings, Witney in the Second World War, transport, education and religion. Key exhibits include tithe maps for Witney (1839) and Hailey (1840), the town stocks and relics of Witney aerodrome. It is run entirely by Friendly Volunteers who have a good knowledge of the local area.
