Mainly a central defender with an aggressive approach, he also played as a defensive midfielder. Most of his professional career (nine years) was spent at Valencia, where he helped the club to five major titles, including two La Liga championships. He amassed totals in that competition of 330 matches and 11 goals over 13 seasons, also playing for Sevilla, Villarreal and Deportivo.
