It was Phillips Petroleum that first found oil in the North Sea, at a position they called Ekofisk, announced 23.December 1969 On August 30, 2002, Conoco Inc. merged with Phillips Petroleum to form ConocoPhillips, becoming the third largest integrated energy company and second-largest in the United States. The company moved its headquarters to Houston.
